This is the advice of the director Sean Mathias, who told The Western Mail that the new stage adaptation will be much more dark and ambiguous with regards to the characters and their professions than the film, making it closer to Truman Capote''s novella.
Describing Breakfast at Tiffany''s as an unconventional love story, he commented: "It''s full of a lot of themes and issues that I have always been engaged by, but more than that, it''s a great story with great characters."
Mr Mathias'' words echo those of Anna Friel earlier this year. She is currently starring in the play and told the press that she had deliberately not watched the film recently so she would not be influenced by it as she brought Holly Golightly to life.
Breakfast at Tiffany''s is booking at the Theatre Royal Haymarket until January 9th next year.
