It has been reported that Michael Ball could be set to take on the role of Shrek in a new musical version of the film.

The Daily Mail''s Baz Bamigboye states that DreamWorks animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg is keen to bring the show to London later this year as he thinks it is perfect for British audiences.
He is said to be looking for a venue, with the London Palladium or the Theatre Royal Drury Lane potential candidates if Oliver! has finished its West End run by then.
Mr Katzenberg is said to have been impressed by Ball''s portrayal of Edna Turnblad in Hairspray and believes he would be able to create empathy for Shrek''s character among audiences.
Although a Shrek musical appeared on Broadway last year, Mr Bamigboye states that much of its book will be rewritten for a West End version.
It was reported earlier this month that the fourth Shrek movie - which will be in 3D - is to open New York''s Tribeca Film Festival on April 21st 2010.
