Emma Cunniffe (The Crucible, Great Expectations) returns as Queen Anne and is joined by Romola Garai (Suffragette, The Hour) as Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough in Helen Edmundson's (The Heresy of Love) gripping play that explores the life of one of England's little known sovereigns who is torn between friendship and duty.

Queen Anne is directed by Natalie Abrahami (Happy Days) and plays for a strictly limited thirteen week season presented by TRH Productions, Scott Landis and Tulchin Bartner Productions.

1702. William III is on the throne and England is on the verge of war.

Princess Anne is soon to become Queen, and her advisors vie for influence over the future monarch. Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, a close friend with whom Anne has an intensely personal relationship, begins to exert increasing pressure as she pursues her own designs on power.

Contending with deceit and blackmail, Anne must decide where her allegiances lie, and whether to sacrifice her closest relationships for the sake of the country.

Queen Anne Customer Feedback

2017-12-08 Both the main female roles were beautifully acted, especially Emma Cunniffe as Queen Anne. Great supporting cast.
2017-10-05 Absolutely brilliant. Stated slowly and moved to a dramatic climax. LOVED it.
2017-10-01 A moving play with comic moments which I enjoyed very much.
2017-10-01 An excellent thoughtful production with high standard of acting.
2017-09-29 Thought provoking. Beautifully acted and played in an enthralling set. Well balanced in all ways. The three leading ladies spun the tale around a web of changing political and personal circumstances. Lovely, thank you all and every one of you.
2017-09-25 Very well acted, produced, directed and staged.
2017-09-23 Good story + very well-acted.
2017-09-22 Excellent performance and setting.
2017-09-22 The theme of the play is fascinating with the interaction between personal relationships and broader political developments. The acting was excellent and the staging first-class.
2017-09-18 I loved this play. A wonderful cast and was a mix of serious historical fact, with vibrancy and humor. I thought the stage setting and costumes were fabulous. Overall a wonderful story of manipulation and relationships, vulnerability and strength, and how power or the need for power can be so destructive. I would highly recommend this.
2017-09-17 Professional and enthusiastic
2017-09-17 Fantastic venue with a great cast. The play was gripping from the beginning and offered an intriguing look into the past.
2017-09-16 Excellent play. Well written and acted.
2017-09-15 RSC sets the standard for British Theatre
2017-09-10 The acting was excellent and the sets were good. Gloomy that human nature was the same in 1700 as today, so modern parallels are possible. Great that theatre upgraded us so that improved the atmoosphere.
2017-09-05 Very interesting and extremely well acted
2017-09-01 Illuminating presentation using satirical songs to explain the view on the street of the intrigue in the court. Brilliant revelation of the development and evolution of the relationship of the Queen and Sarah Churchill by the leading lady and their staff and politicians. Delivered in evocative settings brought to life by costume and lighting. This production needs to be shared by projection into cinemas around the country. Come on RSC bring this story to the people!
2017-09-01 Purchase of tickets excellent. Very efficient. ' Queen Anne' was brilliant and we learnt a lot about that period of history. An altogether wonderful production with first rate actors.
2017-08-29 Very interesting plot and Loved the comic songs. Dragged down slightly by having to 'scene-set' but I suppose inevitable in a historical drama. All in all, a good evening.
2017-08-28 reliable, arrived on the dot,
2017-08-27 It was brilliant! The acting was amazing, the content fantastic. I learnt a lot and the time flew by.
