Book The Braille Legacy Tickets playing at the Charing Cross Theatre London

The Braille Legacy tells the thrilling, true, inspirational and epic story of Louis Braille, a young blind boy who wanted the same chance in life as those who see and ended up improving the lives of millions of blind people around the world.

In Paris in the 19th century, blind people were victims of profound discrimination. Louis Braille, a bright young mind with a mad dream, arrives at the Royal Institute of Blind Youth, searching for the same chance as everyone else: to be free and independent. But he soon discovers that people and things aren’t always what they first seem. By sheer determination and courage, he stumbles upon something revolutionary: a simple idea, a genius invention, a legacy.
Two hundred years ago, Louis Braille changed the world by inventing the tactile system of communication the Braille alphabet, liberating the “People of the Night” and introducing literacy, knowledge and culture to a people who were otherwise trapped. It was their journey into the light.

Directed by Thom Southerland, who has previously brought to the Charing Cross Ragtime and Titanic and has also directed Grey Gardens.
Olivier Award nominated Jérôme Pradon's West End credits include the UK premiere of the musical Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, Guillaume in Martin Guerre, The Man in Whistle Down the Wind, Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings, Chris in Miss Saigon, Javert in Les Misérables in London and Marius in Paris, and Judas in the Emmy-winning video of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Ideally situated under Charing Cross Station, the New Players Theatre is brimming with history and is proud to be one of London’s last remaining music hall venues. Over 100 years of entertainment lives within these walls creating a beautifully theatrical atmosphere bursting with memories of London’s finest entertainers - and, back in the days, if you were willing to buy a pint and a cigar then your entrance was free! Sadly with the smoking ban now in force we have to charge a little more than that, but we remain a competitively priced, central London venue, giving audiences the chance to see, with ease, a range of entertainment.

We have been striving to continue the spirit of the venue by entertaining audiences with many kinds of events from late night cabarets, plays, comedy and musicals to showcases, fashion shows and music gigs.

The venue is beautiful and still has the original Victorian bar at the back of the auditorium with the original Victorian glass panelling, as you can imagine the atmosphere in this space is one of a kind. The theatre is perfectly complimented with a highly successful bar and restaurant which opens until 2.30am. We are a venue which hardly sleeps at all.

History Of The Theatre

Founded in 1936 this theatre occupied several premises in the West End before locating to its present site under The Arches below Charing Cross Station. The current site was a famous Victorian music hall which went on to produce many musicals, pantomimes and melodramas.

With 275 seats The New Players Theatre is one of the smallest West End theatres. It was rebuilt in 1989 as part of the Charing Cross re-development to meet the demands of national and international producers wanting a theatre which offers a degree of intimacy and is the equivalent of an Off-Broadway space.

The Theatre and Players Bar and Restaurant have recently been refurbished and are now owned and operated by The Pure Group.
