Stanley Webber (Toby Jones) is the only lodger at Meg (Zoë Wanamaker) and Petey Boles’ sleepy seaside boarding house. The unsettling arrival of enigmatic strangers Goldberg (Stephen Mangan) and McCann disrupts the humdrum lives of the inhabitants and their friend Lulu, and mundanity soon becomes menace when a seemingly innocent birthday party turns into a disturbing nightmare. Truth and alliances hastily shift in Pinter's brilliantly mysterious dark-comic masterpiece about the absurd terrors of the everyday.

Following critically-acclaimed productions of Betrayal, and Old Times, Ian Rickson reunites with Sonia Friedman Productions to direct a new production of Harold Pinter’s landmark play, The Birthday Party. With a cast featuring a trio of Olivier Award winners, Golden Globe Award-nominated Toby Jones (The Play What I Wrote, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, Sherlock), Tony Award-nominated Stephen Mangan (The Norman Conquests, Jeeves and Wooster, Episodes) and Tony Award-nominated Zoë Wanamaker CBE (Harlequinade, Passion Play, My Family) star in this comedy of menace.

The Birthday Party opens in January 2018 for a strictly limited 14 week season.

Further casting to be announced.

2018-04-17 Excellent play, cast, performance
2018-04-15 Worth the money and a great show. Fantastic actors
2018-04-14 Great acting, in a challenging play.
2018-04-12 Wonderful cast and a great set. However my seats were restricted which spoilt the overall enjoyment.
2018-04-11 Absolutely Brilliant, we both enjoyed it very much. Superb performances from all, considering there were 'only' 6 actors on stage we found it both captivating and absorbing. So much happening in those few hours. It was a show that left us entertained but slightly confused at the end as to what we'd just watched which just made us look up the storyline once again on the way home. Theatre was really nice, intimate, small but welcoming. Our seat view was very good to, overall a very good evening was had.
2018-04-09 Acting was superb and the venue was amazing but it was very hot!
2018-04-07 Amazing performance and great cast!
2018-04-06 Acting and directing both of highest quality
2018-03-30 Excellent cast. 1957 setting.
2018-03-30 So exciting. Magnificent, dangerous performances
2018-03-28 excellent! easy to do and no problems picking tickets up.
2018-03-21 Great acting. Scene in the dark didn’t work. Not keen on the play itself. Theatre was fine.
2018-03-19 We had very good time everything was just right
2018-03-18 Strong performances from all the leading roles - Steven Mangan especially owned the stage. But the play itself is so uncomfortable to watch; its not an uplifting experience.
2018-03-15 Extraordinary performances from Toby, Stephen and particularly Zoe. You could smell the crumby set and the intensity of the direction, left us struggling with the range of interpretations. Terrific piece of theatre.
2018-03-13 Superb acting, fantastic set and great production and attention to detail
