How far would you go to be the most powerful man in the world?

Two opposing presidential party candidates are neck and neck in an unscrupulous battle for the nomination. The only thing that separates the ex-Secretary of State and his populist opponent is an endorsement from a respected ex-President. But where does compromise end and corruption begin? And who in the end will be proved to be ‘The Best Man’?

One of the UK’s best loved actors, Martin Shaw leads a star-studded cast. Best known for his TV roles in Judge John Deed, Inspector George Gently and The Professionals, he returns to the stage after his West End triumphs which include An Ideal Husband, Twelve Angry Men, Are You Lonesome Tonight? and A Man for All Seasons. Jeff Fahey, American movie star whose films include The Lawnmower Man and TV series Lost co-stars alongside BAFTA award-winning Gemma Jones, best known for her roles in Bridget Jones’s Diary, Spooks and Harry Potter.

Jack Shepherd, whose extensive career includes his celebrated roles in Wycliffe and Bill Brand; Glynis Barber, best known for Dempsey and Makepeace, Night and Day and EastEnders; and Honeysuckle Weeks and Anthony Howell who co-starred alongside Michael Kitchen as Samantha Stewart and Paul Milner in Foyle’s War.

The Best Man Customer Feedback

2018-04-19 The Best Man was as relevant today as when it was written in 1960. Gore Vidal’s sharp wit and intelligent observations make the play funny yet thought provoking. The acting was superb by the whole cast. The time went by so quickly - such a wonderful theatre experience.
2018-04-18 Quick and easy. Good value
2018-04-15 Interesting play, well acted
2018-04-13 Martin Shaw excellent - Maureen Lipman stole the show with brilliant comic timing. Good play still relevant today
2018-04-12 Fantastically well acted and an absorbing play, redolent of its time - 1960
2018-04-10 Written more than half a centuru ago and still relevant.
2018-04-07 Because it was really good! A good play (though with no new ideas on polítics). Very good actors that were playing their roles naturally, spoke clearly (even for non english speaking people like my husband and I)
2018-04-04 Really good evening. A play for grown ups which resonated with today. Great acting, great dialogue and set.
2018-04-03 Excellent all round. The theatre is fabulous and intimate, the actors were all superb and the story for those who haven't read the book is believable and very thought provoking. A definite recommendation.
2018-04-02 Great performances, great actors
2018-03-29 Production was excellent - most of the acting too. We particularly liked Jack Shepard and Maureen Lipman. Honeysuckle Weeks' accent was a bit overdone to the extent that we couldn't understand some of what she said. Martin Shaw gave a commanding performance but should have been cooler and more calmly intellectual . Very good show though and glad to have seen it.
2018-03-26 Corking play with interesting, believable characters who are well acted and with a nice twist at the finale. Well worth a watch whether follow politics or not. Also our seats were unexpectedly upgraded which was a bonus. Highly recommended.
2018-03-25 The brilliant cast had us gripped to our seats throughout
2018-03-25 Brilliant, everybody on stage was just awesome
2018-03-24 We really enjoyed the show. Excellent cast, beautifully delivered and a lovely theatre to spend the evening .
2018-03-24 Good acting. Good seat. Ice cream too expensive
2018-03-21 The acting was terrific and such clever staging. A great adaptation.
2018-03-18 The star studded staff lived up to the expectation and they were excellent. Jack Shepherd's energy and stamina are most impressive. This 1960s play is so relevant today and is a great introduction to Gore Vidal's work. The restricted vision in the dress circle's front row is not as bad as the tickets suggest. Most of the action is centre stage so is easily seen. The plentiful leg room is a treat. The dress circle bar prices are a bit steep for a glass of wine!
2018-03-16 Really enjoyed the show Acting by main actors was exceptional but the show was maybe a little too long
2018-03-12 I thought that the acting was excellent. Plus superb staging of power struggle in hotel rooms at the party conference. The play, although written some time ago, it did not really seem out of date, as politics appear to still remain a tacky sport for egotistical personalities. Well worth the the ring side seat.
2018-03-08 Excellent play . Acting superb save for occasional lack of voice projection.
2018-03-07 Thought it was really though provoking about elected leaders.
