Fleet Street. 1969. The Sun rises. A young and rebellious Rupert Murdoch askes the impossible and launches The Sun’s first editor’s quest: to give the people what they want.

No matter the cost. Following a sell-out season at the Almeida, Ink, written by James Graham (This House) and directed by Rupert Goold (King Charles III), transfers to the Duke of York’s Theatre for a strictly limited season. With a cast featuring Bertie Carvel (Doctor Foster, Matilda) and Richard Coyle ( The Lover/The Collection), this ruthless, red-topped new play leads with the birth of this country’s most influential newspaper.

“Hold the front page: a huge 5-star hit”-Evening Standard

“A play for today. The blazingly talented James Graham has penned a super, soaraway smash.”-  The Daily Telegraph

A truly thought-provoking, unmissable event.- The Independent

“Delivered with, flair and vivid humanity and sharper than a paper cut. It’s a hell of a story.” - The Times

2017-11-29 Gr8 play with brilliant performances, wonderful set and gr8 sense of the time
2017-11-29 The whole production was excellent, especially the script, sets and acting - with one exception: Bertie Carvel spoke his lines too quickly & softly. We often couldn't understand him. On the whole though, the play was amazing.

2017-09-15 Great acting great set very entertaining slightly too long so loses its grip towards the end. Duke of York is a lovely theatre with Royal Circle seating perfect.
2017-09-10 An excellent play. Richard Coyle and Bertie Carvel are superb. The set design was very clever - reminding us of the mechanical nature of the press of the past. Everyone in the ensemble shone at being both funny and tragic. Got tickets now.
