Acclaimed rising star Thom Southerland will direct this brand new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony and Olivier-Award nominated musical, The Woman in White in a strictly limited 12-week season.

A tempestuous tale of love, betrayal and greed, adapted from Wilkie Collins’ haunting Victorian thriller, this is the premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel’s revised score.

Walter Hartright’s life is changed forever after a chance encounter with a mysterious woman, dressed in white, desperate to reveal her chilling secret. When he takes up his position as drawing master to the beautiful Laura Fairlie and her half sister, Marian, he sees in Laura’s face an eerie reflection of the forlorn creature he met previously. Walter and Laura’s feelings for each other are thwarted by her engagement to the sinister Sir Percival Glyde. What is the connection between, Laura, Sir Percival, and the woman in white? Can true love prevail?

Ideally situated under Charing Cross Station, the New Players Theatre is brimming with history and is proud to be one of London’s last remaining music hall venues. Over 100 years of entertainment lives within these walls creating a beautifully theatrical atmosphere bursting with memories of London’s finest entertainers - and, back in the days, if you were willing to buy a pint and a cigar then your entrance was free! Sadly with the smoking ban now in force we have to charge a little more than that, but we remain a competitively priced, central London venue, giving audiences the chance to see, with ease, a range of entertainment.

We have been striving to continue the spirit of the venue by entertaining audiences with many kinds of events from late night cabarets, plays, comedy and musicals to showcases, fashion shows and music gigs.

The venue is beautiful and still has the original Victorian bar at the back of the auditorium with the original Victorian glass panelling, as you can imagine the atmosphere in this space is one of a kind. The theatre is perfectly complimented with a highly successful bar and restaurant which opens until 2.30am. We are a venue which hardly sleeps at all.

History Of The Theatre

Founded in 1936 this theatre occupied several premises in the West End before locating to its present site under The Arches below Charing Cross Station. The current site was a famous Victorian music hall which went on to produce many musicals, pantomimes and melodramas.

With 275 seats The New Players Theatre is one of the smallest West End theatres. It was rebuilt in 1989 as part of the Charing Cross re-development to meet the demands of national and international producers wanting a theatre which offers a degree of intimacy and is the equivalent of an Off-Broadway space.

The Theatre and Players Bar and Restaurant have recently been refurbished and are now owned and operated by The Pure Group.

ACCESS INFORMATION

The New Players Theatre and Players Bar and Restaurant have unimpeded access from the Strand or Embankment into the foyer of the venue. From here there is level access to Balcony One for the Theatre, box office, unisex toilet facilities, the bars and restaurant. The main stalls level is 16 steps down from the main entrance, with handrails on either side. The toilets for the main stalls are a further 8 steps down from the doors to the theatre. Seating within the theatre is gently raked from row C onwards. Row K on the central aisle is on the same level as the doors to the theatre and has the most leg room of all rows.

Wheelchair users

Balcony One has removable seating for up to 4 wheelchairs. The area has an excellent view of the stage and level access from the foyer. Please call the theatre direct to book tickets: 020 7930 5868 during office hours and ask to speak to one of the admin staff.

The venue welcomes guide dogs

The Woman in White Review

“The Woman in White is more than a musical, it is a powerful popular opera, both romantic and spectacular; a thriller; a swaggering, flamboyant Victorian melodrama; a tempestuous story of love and intrigue; a great, arching narrative, brilliantly told.”
The Sunday Times
“Lloyd Webber’s music, never before so classical and operatic, becomes hypnotic as it slowly unveils its melodies.”
The Daily Mail
“Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best score in years.”
The Guardian
“Big, lush, swirling melodies that pour over you and seem to pin you down.”
Financial Times
“Luscious, lavish, sensual, romantic and melodramatic.”
The Mail on Sunday
“A must-see musical thriller! The Woman in White is an engrossing tale, full of artifice and spine-chiller twists.”
New York Post

2018-02-20 Always been one of our favourite Lloyd Webber shows. Great score and well acted and directed. Too short a run for show of this quality. Hope it may come back soon.
2018-02-13 The adaptation was excellent as was the singing and acting - a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon matinee!
2018-02-08 Amazing, spellbinding, spectacular
2018-02-05 The singing was very good, but having read the book it was always going to be hard to fully reproduce the story in any detail. That said rhe performance was enjoyable.
2018-02-03 I saw this show many years ago and just loved it, so had to come back and see how it worked in a smaller theatre. The cast are fantastic , the music is beautiful and I hope that this stays around for quite a while ! Highly recommend it....
2018-01-30 Very easy site to use and tickets waiting for collection on arrival. Woman in White is a brilliant show. Worth 400 mile round trip drive!
2018-01-28 Captivating from the start, totally engrossed from start to finish. I didn’t want it to end.
2018-01-21 I loved it! Right up there with Phantom, Love Never Dies and Aspects of Love for me. It had love, suspense, humour and tragedy. The music alone was fantastic. I hope it continues with National Tour as I would definitely seee it again.
2017-12-10 very good show, great seats
2017-12-06 Really enjoyed this show. The singing was excellent and the intimate experience of the Charing Cross theatre was a bonus.
