MGC Artistic Director Michael Grandage directs this first ever UK revival since directing the world premiere at the Donmar Warehouse in 2009. The production went on to win six Tony Awards, including Best Play.

Award-winning stage and screen actor Alfred Molina reprises his critically acclaimed performance as the American abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko. He is joined by rising star Alfred Enoch of US television drama series How to Get Away With Murder as his assistant Ken.

Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Mark Rothko takes on his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.

Red reunites John Logan and Michael Grandage following Peter and Alice with Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw which formed part of MGC’s inaugural season in the West End in 2013, and their feature film Genius.

MGC also present The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh, at the Wyndhams Theatre from 23 June.

Please note no latecomers will be admitted to any of the performances and re-admittance may be refused once the performance has started

This production contains strong language and real cigarettes will be used.

2018-07-30 Thought provoking and dynamic 1.5 hours!
2018-07-27 I am familiar with that set of paintings and with the painter Mark Rothko I felt that the production presented the artist in a very real way and was excellently portrayed by Alfred Molina and Alfred Enoch.
2018-07-27 Incredible performance and flawless production.
2018-07-26 Acting superb - Rothko pictures amazing given especially they were not actually Rothko's. Problems posed were intriguing. Only downer - not a single mention of a single woman artist. Come ON boys.
2018-07-25 Amazing play! I was amazed by the lighting design, and the actors performances!!

Went with my daughter in her fifties, my grandchildren in their early twenties, all passionate theater goers and we all thought that it was one of the best plays that we have seen in a long time.
