Published Wed, 29 December 2021

As we approach the new year, it’s a time to look for with excitement to the next twelve months of theatre, and start planning out the diary to fit it all in. Theatreland looks set for a big year in 2022, so if you’re looking to make up for lost time over the last couple of years, here are some fantastic options.

  1. Cinderella – Gillian Lynne Theatre

This show has been the centre of much drama over the course of the lockdown. Is it going to open? Is it not? Will it open as a test venue? Will it not? In the end it opened to rave reviews, and returns from February 2022 starring Carrie Hope Fletcher in the title role. Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

  1. Come From Away – Phoenix Theatre

Perhaps the most emotionally powerful one-act musical you’ll ever see. Come From Away retells the events of 9/11 from the unique vantage point of the remote town of Gander in Newfoundland. With a cast of plane passengers, flight crew and locals, this based-on-truth musical is incredibly moving.

  1. Frozen – Theatre Royal Drury Lane

This hotly anticipated new Disney stage musical delayed its opening due to the pandemic. 2022 is the year to catch Frozen live on stage, with Samantha Barks in the role of Elsa. Take the whole family and relight the theatre flame after the Covid-hiatus.

  1. The Drifters Girl – Garrick Theatre

Just round the corner from Leicester Square, the Garrick Theatre hosts the world premiere of this new jukebox musical, starring the irresistible music of The Drifters. Enjoy favourites including Save The Last Dance For Me and Hello Happiness. Currently taking bookings until July 2022.

  1. Get Up Stand Up! – Lyric Theatre

Another brand-new jukebox musical hits London! Get Up Stand Up brings the best of Bob Marley to life and draws together his music, lyrics and life story to create a powerfully uplifting new show. The critics are giving it five stars, so grab yourself a ticket to this celebration of Jamaica’s top musical icon.

Next week we’ll continue our picks of the top 22 shows to see in London in 2022. Happy new year!
