Sheridan Smith is set to make a highly anticipated return to the West End in a new production of Alan Ayckbourn’s psychological comedy Woman in Mind. The show will run at the Duke of York’s Theatre from 9 December 2025 through 28 February 2026.

The play, considered one of Ayckbourn’s most innovative works, follows Susan, a woman whose reality begins to unravel after a head injury. Her life splits between the mundane world she inhabits and a vivid, imagined universe, exploring themes of identity, family, and mental escape. Smith will lead the production, marking her first major stage role since the world premiere of John Cassavetes’ Opening Night.

Direction will be by Michael Longhurst, who is known for his imaginative and visually striking productions. The creative team includes Soutra Gilmour handling set and costume design, Lee Curran on lighting, and sound design by Paul Arditti, ensuring a fully immersive theatrical experience.

Woman in Mind promises a compelling blend of comedy and psychological depth, with Smith bringing her signature intensity and versatility to the central role. Theatre-goers can expect a thought-provoking, visually captivating production that highlights both the humor and the heartbreak in Ayckbourn’s writing.

Performances run from 9 December 2025 to 28 February 2026 at the Duke of York’s Theatre.
