Paddington The Musical Arrives In The West End

Published Tue, 4 November 2025

London's West End is welcoming a new arrival this November as Paddington the Musical begins previews at the Savoy Theatre. Fans of the marmalade-loving bear will soon be able to see him in a rich, live-action format designed to capture both his charm and the heart of his story.

This adaptation of Michael Bond’s beloved books—and the hit film series—features a film-inspired Paddington brought to life on stage. The role is uniquely performed by two artists: one on-stage performer handles physical movement, while an off-stage voice actor and puppeteer synchronise facial and emotional expression. The bear’s look has been carefully crafted under the direction of designer Tahra Zafar, combining teddy-like warmth with theatrical presence. Paddington appears in his classic outfit—red hat, blue duffle coat, and suitcase—with a design that honours the original illustrations while adapting to stage movement and singing.

Behind the scenes, the creative team boasts music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher, a book by Jessica Swale, and direction by Luke Sheppard. The team emphasises emotional authenticity, aiming to create a production that feels both familiar and fresh. The story follows the small bear from Peru as he arrives at London Paddington station and begins his adventures with the Brown family—yet the musical also introduces a darker thread when Paddington faces a mysterious threat, forcing the Browns to realise just how special he is.

The production promises a blend of magic, movement, and emotional storytelling suited for all ages. Audiences can expect big musical numbers, inventive stage design, and a heartfelt tale of belonging. With performances beginning in early November, Paddington the Musical sets out to charm a new generation of theatre-goers while offering something nostalgic for long-time fans.
