Directed by Robert Icke, the new staging promises a modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy while maintaining the emotional depth of the original text. Icke is known for his contemporary approach to classic works, often bringing a fresh perspective to well-known stories.

Romeo and Juliet tells the tragic story of two young lovers from rival families in Verona. After meeting at a party, the pair quickly fall in love and secretly marry in the hope of overcoming the long-standing feud between their families. However, a series of dramatic events ultimately leads to their deaths, making it one of the most famous tragedies in theatre history.

With its run now extended until 20 June 2026, the production will give more audiences the opportunity to see this new West End staging of Shakespeare’s enduring love story.
