Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods is heading to the West End this autumn following its major success at the Bridge Theatre. Directed by Jordan Fein, the Olivier Award-winning production will begin performances at the Noël Coward Theatre on 22 September, with its run scheduled through to 9 January 2027. This marks the Bridge Theatre’s first West End transfer, bringing one of the most celebrated musical revivals of recent years to a wider audience.

The production has already made a strong impact, picking up two Olivier Awards, including Best Musical Revival and Best Lighting Design, alongside an impressive 11 nominations. Its critical reception has highlighted both the emotional depth and visual spectacle of the show, with audiences drawn into its layered storytelling and striking stagecraft.

Kate Fleetwood will reprise her acclaimed role as the Witch, continuing her performance after the current Bridge Theatre run concludes on 18 April. Further casting for the West End engagement is expected to be announced soon, adding to the anticipation surrounding the transfer.

Into the Woods weaves together familiar fairy tale characters while exploring deeper themes such as responsibility, community, grief, and the consequences of personal choices. The musical’s blend of humour, darkness, and philosophical reflection has cemented its reputation as one of Sondheim’s most enduring works.

Producer Jamie Wilson described the show as a masterpiece, praising the production as a perfect realisation of Sondheim and James Lapine’s vision. Director Jordan Fein also expressed excitement about bringing the production to a larger audience, highlighting the opportunity for more theatre-goers to experience its music and storytelling up close.

With its award-winning creative team and powerful storytelling, this West End transfer is set to be one of the standout theatre events of the season.
