Full casting has been revealed for the world premiere of Trainspotting The Musical, which is set to open in London’s West End this summer.

Based on Irvine Welsh’s iconic novel, the new musical is presented by Phil McIntyre Live and reunites audiences with the unforgettable characters of Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy and Kelly. The production revisits their lives three decades after the release of the landmark 1996 film adaptation, which starred Ewan McGregor and became one of the defining British films of its generation.

Trainspotting The Musical is written by Irvine Welsh, with music and lyrics by Welsh and Stephen McGuinness. Directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger, the production will feature a mix of songs associated with the original film alongside newly written material created specifically for the stage version.

Robbie Scott will make his West End debut as Renton, leading a cast made up entirely of Scottish performers. Sheridan Townsley will play Sick Boy, Kieran Andrew takes on the role of Spud, Frankie O’Connor appears as Begbie, and Finlay Paul will portray Tommy.

The cast also includes Rebecca McKinnis as Cathy Renton, Gordon Cooper as Davie Renton, Ashley J Russell as Colleen, Rosie Dignan as Alison, Yana Harris as Kelly and Sophie Hutchinson as Lizzie.

Joining them in the ensemble are Ally Kennard, Kieran Brown, Melanie Marshall, Lewis Kidd, Samuel Stewart, Finlay McKillop, Ciara Ennis, Victoria Nicol, Kyra Fyvie and Chris O’Mara.

Speaking about the production, Welsh said the musical has “a bigger, loudly beating human heart” than either the book or film, adding that audiences can expect emotion, humour and plenty of energy from the stage adaptation.

Trainspotting The Musical will begin performances at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 15 July 2026.
