Sam Ryder to Lead Jesus Christ Superstar UK Tour in 2027

Eurovision star Sam Ryder is set to take his acclaimed performance as Jesus on the road when Jesus Christ Superstar embarks on a major UK tour in 2027. Following its highly successful run at the London Palladium and an upcoming transfer to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, audiences across the country will have the opportunity to experience this new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s legendary rock musical.

The tour will begin at Manchester’s Palace Theatre in February 2027 before travelling to cities throughout the UK, including Cardiff, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool and Bristol. Additional casting for the production will be announced at a later date.

Producer Michael Harrison said the overwhelming response to the London opening confirmed the enduring popularity of the musical. He expressed excitement about bringing director Tim Sheader’s celebrated production to audiences nationwide, alongside Sam Ryder’s much-anticipated portrayal of the title role.

Ryder, who became a household name after representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest, has enjoyed remarkable success in recent years. The singer-songwriter has achieved chart-topping albums, amassed billions of streams worldwide and built a global following of more than 20 million fans. His latest album, Heartland, has been praised as an important step in his artistic development.

This new staging reunites the creative team behind the award-winning 2016 production. Tim Sheader returns as director, with choreography by Drew McOnie and design by Tom Scutt. Their previous collaboration received widespread critical acclaim and introduced a fresh vision for the classic musical.

Originally released as a concept album, Jesus Christ Superstar premiered on Broadway in 1971 and quickly became an international phenomenon. Its original West End production ran for more than eight years, cementing its place as one of the most successful musicals in theatre history.

Fans can already hear Ryder’s interpretations of the show’s famous songs “Gethsemane” and “What’s The Buzz?”, which are now available on streaming platforms.
