Cats Musical At Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats is now playing at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, bringing the legendary musical back to London in a completely reimagined outdoor production. Performances began on 25 July 2026, with the limited summer season running until 19 September 2026.

Directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie, the new Cats musical combines the show’s celebrated dance heritage with contemporary movement. McOnie has introduced influences from street dance, commercial dance, jazz and classical choreography, creating a fresh and energetic interpretation for modern audiences.

The Cats London cast includes Rachael Wooding as Grizabella, Melanie La Barrie as Old Deuteronomy and Gary Wilmot as Asparagus. Jaydon Vijn plays the rebellious Rum Tum Tugger, alongside a large company of dancers and musical theatre performers.

Based on T. S. Eliot’s poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical follows a group of extraordinary cats gathering for an important annual celebration. Throughout the evening, the characters share their individual stories as their leader decides which cat will be offered the opportunity to begin a new life.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s instantly recognisable Cats score includes “Memory”, “Macavity: The Mystery Cat”, “The Rum Tum Tugger” and “Mr Mistoffelees”. Since its London premiere in 1981, Cats has become one of the most successful and widely performed musicals in theatre history.

The open-air location provides a distinctive setting for the show, allowing audiences to experience its music, dancing and imaginative characters beneath the summer sky in Regent’s Park.
