Lolly Adefope will make her West End debut as Mary Todd Lincoln in the Olivier and Tony Award-winning comedy Oh, Mary! at London’s Trafalgar Theatre.
The British comedian and actress will take over the leading role for a limited ten-week season from 28 September to 5 December 2026. Adefope is best known for playing Kitty in the hit BBC comedy Ghosts, alongside appearances in Taskmaster, Saltburn, Wicked Little Letters and Shrill.
She follows a remarkable line-up of performers who have played Mary in London. Oh, Mary! creator Cole Escola currently leads the company until 15 August, before two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon returns to the role from 17 August to 26 September.
Written by Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton, Oh, Mary! presents a wildly fictionalised version of Mary Todd Lincoln during the weeks preceding the assassination of her husband, US President Abraham Lincoln.
Rather than behaving like a conventional First Lady, this Mary is a frustrated, heavy-drinking aspiring cabaret performer desperate to escape her unhappy marriage and pursue her theatrical ambitions. The fast-paced 80-minute comedy combines historical satire, outrageous characters and deliberately absurd humour.
The production became a major success in New York before transferring to London’s Trafalgar Theatre in December 2025. It has since won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play and extended its West End run until 2 January 2027.
Full casting for Lolly Adefope’s season will be announced at a later date.
With Adefope joining one of the West End’s most talked-about comedies, demand for her limited engagement is expected to be strong. Oh, Mary! tickets are currently available for performances at the Trafalgar Theatre, including the forthcoming seasons starring Jinkx Monsoon and Lolly Adefope.
