Game Of Thrones: The Mad King Is Heading To London In 2027

Game of Thrones: The Mad King will transfer to London in 2027 following the success of its world-premiere season in Stratford-upon-Avon. The new theatrical production, inspired by George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novels, has played to sold-out audiences at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre since opening on 8 August.

Its Stratford-upon-Avon run ends on Saturday 5 September, but audiences will have another opportunity to enter the world of Westeros when the production arrives in the capital next year. Its London theatre, opening date and performance schedule have not yet been revealed. Casting information will also be announced nearer the time.

Rather than retelling the story seen in the television series, Game of Thrones: The Mad King travels back to the years immediately preceding the events of Martin’s novels. The production explores a crucial and violent period in Westerosi history, when political ambition, family loyalties and battles for control pushed the Seven Kingdoms towards rebellion.

Duncan Macmillan has adapted the story for the stage, with Dominic Cooke directing. Martin is involved as creator and executive producer and has expressed his enthusiasm for introducing the production to a larger London audience after attending its premiere.

The scale and atmosphere of Westeros are brought to life by an experienced creative team. Chloe Lamford is responsible for the set design, with costumes by Georgia McGuinness and lighting by Jon Clark. Will Stuart provides the music, while Lume’s Nick Barnes and Finn Caldwell oversee the production’s puppetry and movement.

Producers include Simon Painter, Tim Lawson, Mark Manuel, Sir Leonard Blavatnik and Danny Cohen for Access Entertainment. Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures is also involved on behalf of HBO.

The transfer gives Game of Thrones fans an opportunity to discover an important story from the history of the Seven Kingdoms live on stage. Further details about Game of Thrones: The Mad King tickets, casting, dates and its London venue will be announced in due course.
