Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Becomes A One-Part West End Show

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is preparing to enter a new era in London, with the West End production being transformed from a two-part play into one complete theatrical experience.

The original two-part version plays its final performances at the Palace Theatre on 20 September 2026. The newly reimagined one-part production will begin performances on 6 October 2026, allowing audiences to experience the entire story with one ticket and during a single visit to the theatre.

This is one of the biggest changes made to Harry Potter And The Cursed Child since it opened in London in 2016. Until now, West End audiences have needed to attend two separate performances, either on the same day or across two different dates. The new format will run for approximately two hours and 55 minutes, including an interval.

Although the running time has been considerably reduced, the production will retain the spectacular illusions, theatrical effects and emotional heart that have made it one of London’s most successful plays. The shorter format has already been staged in several international productions, including Broadway.

Set 19 years after the events of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, the story follows an adult Harry Potter, now an employee at the Ministry of Magic and a father of three. His youngest son, Albus, struggles with the weight of the Potter family name and forms an unexpected friendship with Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius. When the boys attempt to change the past, their actions place both the present and the future in danger.

The move to a single performance is likely to make the production more convenient for families, visitors to London and anyone unable to commit to two separate shows. It also arrives shortly before the October half-term holidays, making the new version a timely choice for a family theatre trip.
