More about Every Brilliant Thing

From Olivier Award-nominated writer Duncan Macmillan (People, Places and Things), EVERY BRILLIANT THING comes to the West End for the very first time this summer with an outstanding cast featuring Lenny Henry, Ambika Mod, Sue Perkins and the show’s original co-creator Jonny Donahoe. Co-directed by Jeremy Herrin (Best of Enemies, Wolf Hall Trilogy, Ulster American, A Mirror), this unique and critically acclaimed play has become a global stage phenomenon, playing in over 80 countries worldwide.

You’re seven years old. Mum’s in hospital. Dad says she’s ‘done something stupid’. She finds it hard to be happy. You start a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything worth living for. You leave it on her pillow. You know she’s read it because she’s corrected your spelling.

A child attempts to ease their mother's depression by creating a list of all the best things in the world. Through adulthood, as the list grows, they learn the deep significance it has on their own life. Every Brilliant Thing is a comedy about the lengths we will go for those we love.

NB This is a one person play and the cast will perform in rotation so check the information and dates when booking.

The opening production of @sohoplace will be The New Vic’s much acclaimed production Marvellous, directed by Theresa Heskins. The New Vic theatre is the oldest purpose built, in-the-round theatre in the UK and @sohoplace is the first new West End theatre in 50 years, with a flexible, 602-seat auditorium, purpose built and opening in-the-round.

Growing up in the 1950’s in less enlightened times, Neil Baldwin was not expected to be a success. But Neil decided he was destined to do wonderful things and that his life was going to be marvellous. And it is.

He hitchhiked across the country, became a famous clown, got an honorary degree from Keele University, was appointed Stoke City’s legendary kit man, appeared on the Queen’s New Year Honours list and accepted a BAFTA award for the film made about his life. A friend to anyone he meets, he became a local hero and an inspiration to the world. A reminder to us all not to let anything stand in the way of your dreams, just go out and make them happen.
