More about Berlin

First premiering to critical acclaim in Australia, Joanna Murray-Smith’s Berlin is a taut psychological drama that blends romance and suspense within a single charged encounter.

This UK premiere, directed by Lucy Bailey, brings new intensity to Murray-Smith’s writing, exploring intimacy, identity and the haunting weight of the past. Set against the backdrop of a restless city, Berlin asks what happens when connection becomes inescapable — and whether escape is ever truly possible.

The Kiln Theatre is located in Kilburn, North London. The theatre opened in a converted Forester’s Hall in 1980 and was formerly known as the Tricycle Theatre. In 1987 the theatre was almost totally destroyed by a fire which started in a neighbouring timber yard. Two years later, it was re-built and the front of house facilities were enhanced and expanded. After undergoing a major redevelopment, the theatre reopened in 2018 as the Kiln Theatre under Indhu Rubasingham's leadership.
