More about Dogstar

The crew of the Dogstar are dropping like flies. Whalers with no whales left to catch, they have been icebound for months and a whiff of mutiny is in the air as they look to cast blame. But something strange is happening. Are the crew’s heavenly visions a symptom of scurvy, a result of the endless polar night – or a chance at salvation?

Daisy Hall returns to Hampstead Downstairs, following sell-out hit Bellringers in 2024. Dogstar is a darkly comic story about the forces that shape our lives, even at the edge of the world. Lucy Morrison returns to Hampstead following 2025 sell-out hit Personal Values, Akedah and The Animal Kingdom. Her other credits include Hope Has a Happy Meal, That Is Not Who I Am and Scenes with girls (all Royal Court).

View Seating Plan
We have a modern auditorium which has been designed to be as flexible as possible in both staging and seating configurations.

The seating capacity can range up to 325, in a variety of formats. There are two main seating areas: Ground Floor (stalls) and Upstairs (circle). On the Ground Floor there is also a mezzanine level, the back row of which are stool seats: higher seats complete with footrests.

Movable seating blocks also allow for the auditorium to be changed from a more traditional end-on configuration with a raised stage, to thrust or traverse layouts where the audience is level with the performance area.

The forestage can be raised, or lowered to allow for an orchestra pit. The main section of stage can also be raised or lowered to change the relationship between performers and audience or to create a rake on stage, and contains removable sections for creating traps. The auditorium is fully air-conditioned.
